San Diego Comic Con 2026: Taking a Beat

Whew.

After a great preview night and first full day at the San Diego Comic Con, I’m ready to take a break. So what if the hotel guest services dude is giving me a hard time about my stamina? I need a day away from throngs of people and general overstimulation of crowds, lights, noise, constant consumerism and long-ass lines for the restroom.

So today will be spent around the hotel neighborhood.

I’ll pack my laptop and my knitting and walk the 800 feet to nearby Barnes & Noble where I’ll spend an hour or so in the comparatively quiet environs of the book store cafe,’ knitting and/or writing.

After that, I’ll catch a movie Ultrastar Cinema, 600 feet from the hotel, where I hope to catch the noon showing of Hadestown, a fitting follow-up Monday’s viewing of The Odyssey.

Energy permitting, I’ll head back to the hotel, change into a swimming suit, grab book and towel then settle in by the pool. There is a heat wave going on, after all, and everyone checked into the hotel is busy at the con.

Lucky me.
