Shadows by Anne Whitehouse

The stone garden lingers like a shadow
reflected in the depths of her eyes.

The shadows of water spiders
lie on the sandy stream bed
like black petals.

Here, in the heart of the forest,
cleft by a waterfall,
the sun’s heat never penetrates.
