Three Tanka by SuzAnne C. Cole

summer garden show
at Hampton Court Palace
drunk on color
I pass parking lot sign—
please stagger your way home

***

travel dilemma—
walk faint trails, enter dark caves
trust most strangers
or stay at Howard Johnson’s
safe with other tourists

***
young girls yearning
for status not yet theirs
pinch off fireflies’ gold
adorn grimy fingers
with circlets of light
